MUSEEQ

Problem to solve:

Quantification of the seedcoat mucilage is time-consuming using conventional chemical approaches. Quantification from seed to seed is impossible, and especially to link the mucilage content with the seed morphometry.

MuSeeQ is an automatic computer-assisted image processing tool for simultaneous mucilage and seed morphometric analysis.

The mucilage, secreted from the seed upon exposure to water, is a model to study the polysaccharide biosynthesis since it is produced in large amounts and composed of complex polymers. It is also of great economic interest for its technical and nutritional value.

However, current strategies to phenotype soluble seedcoat mucilage are restricted to visual evaluations or are highly time-consuming.

  • MuSeeQ is a high-throughput phenotyping method for the simultaneous measurement of the soluble mucilage content released on a gel and the seed morphometric parameters.

  • MuSeeQ combines a biochemical assay and an open-source computer-aided image analysis tool.

  • MuSeeQ is low-cost and user-friendly.

  • MuSeeQ can be easily used in fundamental, food, pharmaceutical and breeding researches as well as for educational purpose
